It’s a Brave New World for Brokers – Three Things to Ask

Our summer has been filled with great headlines about the growth of private health exchanges. With the exception of one study that focused on brokers, private exchanges are golden! Accenture estimates that three million are already enrolled in a private exchange, exceeding their earlier enrollment estimates, and they now predict that 40 million employees will be in private exchanges by 2018.

With this kind of “hyper growth” in the works, it’s perplexing to read that brokers recommend private exchanges less than 5% of the time. There’s no plausible explanation for this that we can think of, especially when private exchanges offer reliability, flexibility and security that’s unmatched in the public domain. Brokers haven’t been displaced with recent changes in healthcare. They’ve just been required to think a little more creatively when putting together insurance offerings and they can be an invaluable asset to any private exchange.

There are three things every employer should ask their broker this Fall:

  1. How can a defined contribution plan and the use of a private exchange benefit my employees and my company?
  2. Will a private exchange offer comprehensive packages, good benefits and coverage my employees and my HR professionals can understand?
  3. How can I join a private exchange?

If your broker cannot adequately answer all three, it’s time for a new broker. If they can, then it’s time to suggest that they contact CieloChoice or that they create a broker account online. Registration is simple.

Brokers who have discovered the advantages of private exchanges for their clients are reaping the benefits. Offering benefits through an exchange provides a simple, easy way to set up a comprehensive benefit program that includes competitive and unique ancillary products. That’s all in addition to consolidated billing, a superior technology platform and an easy to use interface for both the employee and the employer.

It’s a brave new world for brokers! It’s time to find a pioneer spirit.
